In-demand Jobs in Newfoundland & Labrador (2023)

Updated: January 1st, 2023

A new dawn beckons as the sun's rays gently warm the easternmost American province of Newfoundland & Labrador in Atlantic Canada. For only a few moments the province baths in sunlight every morning while the rest of the continent remains dark. As the ancient landing site of the Vikings awakens so does its blossoming economy.

The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland & Labrador is a five-year immigration plan aimed at increasing immigration to the beautiful and serene maritime province. The plan has brought in thousands of skilled immigrants who are helping boost the province economy, which currently has the third-highest GDP in Canada. Service industries account for the largest share of the province's GDP, followed closely by mining, oil production, manufacturing, and fishing.

So, let's take a closer look at how the Newfoundland & Labrador provincial nomination program (NLPNP) works, and what are the top in-demand jobs in Newfoundland & Labrador in 2022.

How Does the NLPNP Work?

FAQS:

What if my occupation is not on the list?

Worry not! If your occupation is not on the list, that doesn't necessarily mean you won’t get a job offer in Newfoundland and Labrador, nor that you won’t be nominated for a Provincial Nominee Program. You can still achieve these things by searching for available jobs in the area. Just because your job isn't on this list, it doesn't mean your skills aren’t needed. It just means that perhaps they’re lower on Canada’s priority list. You can still apply for a job, get a work offer and a provincial nomination.

What city in Newfoundland and Labrador is the best for my occupation?

Newfoundland and Labrador has nine major cities. You can search for your in-demand occupation on search engines like Google, job-seeking apps like Indeed, or go straight to the government or provincial websites. For example, St. John’s is the capital of the province and needs delivery drivers and clerks, while Labrador City near the border of Quebec needs letter carriers and project managers.

FAQ 3: How do I find a job in Newfoundland and Labrador?

The first thing you should find out is your NOC number, so that you can search for the correct job, based on your skills and experience. You can job-hunt in various ways, by doing a search on job advertising websites or the provincial website. A great resource is Canada’s Job Bank, which lets you filter by location and NOC code. Consulting with your agent will also assist you in finding out exactly where to look.
