Canadian Employers

Updated: August 4th, 2020

Canadian employers are looking for a candidate that offers so much more than just the right qualification. There are many other factors that they need to consider when looking at an individual candidate, so make sure that you can impress them with the following additional attributes.

Qualifications

When you apply for a certain job, you will need the right qualification or skill set to get an interview with the prospective employer. This will differ for each job description, so you should always remember to read through the job description carefully before applying.

Hard skills

These skills are the specific technical skills that you will need to be able to do your job. This includes:

Using computer programs
Measuring and calculating
Analyzing data
Speaking a language
Operating a machine

Soft skills

These are your employability skills and the attributes that you will need to do well in the job. This includes your ability to work in a team and handle stressful situations if they arise. You will need to prove that you have these skills in the interview, so always be prepared with examples of your personable abilities.

Communication
Problem solving
Positive attitudes and behaviors
Adaptability
Working with others

Experience

Having the right experience in the field can often mean the difference between landing the job and finding another option. This means that you have worked in the same type of industry and understand the work itself.

In many cases, if you are an international applicant, you will need to have your credentials assessed by Canadian authorities. That means that they will evaluate your qualifications and experience in relation to Canadian standards of education. Most industries insist on this before they can look through your resume.
