The University of Waterloo is said to be number one in Canada for experiential learning and computer science, engineering and mathematics. Currently, the University of Waterloo is ranked number three in Canada as an institution.

They also believe in experience-rich education. The university has co-operative education programs which means learners can obtain professional work while studying. Here are some statistics from previous years.

  • Students graduate with up to two years of paid work experience
  • Students earned between $8,400 to $18,000 on Canadian work terms, with an average earning of $12,700 per work term for 2019/20
  • 96% of co-op grads employed six months after graduation worked in positions related to skills they acquired at Waterloo.

New sessions start every month, each course runs for six weeks and the time required is two to four hours per week. The course categories are:

The cost per course is $190 plus any applicable taxes. To receive the certificate you’ll need to achieve a minimum of 65 percent. The certificate will be emailed to you within one to two weeks.

Admissions Process

There are more than 30,000 students from 120 countries pursuing different courses at the University of Waterloo. Students can apply to more than one program.

Application Requirements for Undergraduate Admissions

  • Official high school transcripts.
  • Proof of English proficiency.
  • Completed Admission Information Form (AIF) - this is great for those wishing to explain reasons for low or below average grades, as well as highlight strengths.
  • May require portfolios, interviews, or more may be required.

The application deadline for the fall term (September to December 2021) is February 1, 2021.

Exceptions for the fall term: Conditional Admission to Pharmacy

  • Application and fee due to the OUAC: February 1, 2021
  • Admission Information Form due: March 1, 2021
  • Supporting documents due to Waterloo: April 2, 2021

Life at the University of Waterloo


The University of Waterloo cares about international students succeeding. There is the International Peer Community program that is aimed at helping new international students feel at home at the university.
