Canadian Immigration Pathways to Consider
As mentioned earlier, there are many ways to work in Canada as a housekeeper in 2023, but to make things a little bit easier, we've highlighted the top 5 options.
- The Home Support Worker Pilot
- The Express Entry System;
- Provincial Nominee Program;
- The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot;
- Atlantic Immigration Pilot.
The Home Support Worker Pilot
The Home Support Worker Pilot is one of two Home Care Provider Pilots aimed at helping experienced caregivers immigrate to Canada if your NOC 2021 code is 44100 or you are a housekeeper. To qualify for this pilot, you will need to have the necessary qualification, have a valid full-time job offer in Canada, meet the minimum language requirements, and have completed some form of secondary education and home care training. The great part about these new immigration programs is that it does not require you to live on your employer's premises as the previous Live-in Caregiver did. Although this is a temporary work permit, once you have at least 24 months of Canadian work experience, you can apply for permanent residence in Canada. For more information on why you should move to Canada as a caregiver.
The Express Entry System
The Express Entry System is a points-based system that manages 3 Canadian federal economic immigration programs. Your application will be entered into draws every two weeks and ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Those with the highest scores will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. As an Executive Housekeeper, you can apply through the Federal Skilled Worker Program if you meet the requirements and score a minimum of 67 out of 100 points. Alternatively, you can apply through the Federal Skilled Trade Program or the Canadian Experience Class if you have previous Canadian work experience.
Provincial Nominee Program
Because the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) will allow you to immigrate to Canada as a housekeeper, if you have a full-time job offer in a province where your occupation is in demand, you can pretty much pick and choose where you would like to live and work in Canada. This is, of course, largely dependent on your skillset. Each province or territory has not only its own PNP but also its own labour needs and criteria that need to be met in order to qualify for a provincial nomination (PN). If you get a PN, you will receive 600 extra CRS points, guaranteeing an ITA for permanent residence.
To ensure your visa is processed quicker, choose an Express Entry-linked PNP (if you qualify). This will allow provinces or territories to select your profile directly from the Express Entry draw pool. If you apply directly to your province or territory, this will also cut your processing time to 6-8 months compared to 15-19 months.
The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot
As an experienced housekeeper, you may be eligible to apply for Canadian permanent residency through the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, no matter your skill set. This Canadian immigration pilot is designed to help skilled foreign workers with a valid full-time job offer to immigrate to Canada. The RINP has 11 participating communities, most of which are in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, where housekeepers are in demand:
- North Bay, Ontario;
- Sudbury Ontario;
- Timmons, Ontario;
- Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario;
- Thunder Bay, Ontario;
- Claresholm, Alberta;
- Vernon, British Columbia; and
- West Kootenay(Trail, Castlegar, Rossland, Nelson), British Columbia
Be sure to check for specific requirements from your chosen community and province.
Atlantic Immigration Program
The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a community-driven and employer-specific pilot that helps intermediate-skilled foreign workers with valid job offers to immigrate to Canada. Housekeepers are also in demand in three of the four Atlantic provinces. You may, however, only be eligible to apply for your Canadian visa under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) if you are classified as a housekeeper under the NOC 2021 code 44101 (home health care workers) or an executive housekeeper, which is NOC 62021.
